Entity Subsets

Subsets within Fact Sheet Fusion are a way to group entities. These groups of entities can then be used to help filter the entities while editing or exporting.

Add buttonCreating a Subset

To create a new subset, click on the add button from the main menu bar or via the subset pop-up context menu. Enter the name for the Subset and click the Add button.

Once the subset has been created it will be listed in the current subset list.

Subsets can also be created and populated via the Entity Import option.

To edit the name of an existing Subset select it, then select the ‘Edit Subset’ menu option.

Delete buttonDelete a subset

Select the subset to be deleted. Then click on the delete button, or select the delete subset option from the menu. Confirmation is required prior to deletion.

Warning

There is no undo option when deleting a subset.

Note

No entities are deleted when a subset is deleted.

Adding and removing Entities from a Subset

When a subset is selected, all the entities within the project will be loaded into the entities panel to the right. Entities already associated with the subset will be displayed with a check in the checkbox. To associated one or more entities to the selected subset click on the entity check box or name. Selecting an entity that is already checked will unselect it from the subset.

To add all entities to the selected subset in one action, rather than select each entity individually select the ‘Select All’ option from the main menu or the Entity List context pop-up menu (accessed by right clicking within the entity list).

To unselect all currently selected entities in the current subset in one action, rather than unselecting each entity individually select the ‘Unselect All’ option from the main menu or the Entity List context pop-up menu (accessed by right clicking within the entity list).

Subsets and Exporting

Within the Entities tab of the Fact Sheet export dialog subsets can be selected for export. The export output will be limited to a unique list of entities drawn from the selected subsets.

Image Viewer

The Image Viewer is a tool that enables you to preview an image, while adjusting watermark options. The Image Viewer can be accessed by double clicking on an image within the Media Manager, or double clicking an image within the main interface or Glossary Manager.

If you open an image via the Media Manager then all of the options in the Image Viewer are immediately available to modify since it is the library edition. If you open the image into the Image Viewer via another interface, then options may not be immediately available to edit. A reminder will be shown next to the Save option.

If the image is being derived from the library edition then the image options are available to edit, since it has it’s own settings and values from the library edition of the image. You can use the Image Viewer to edit the Library properties or a derived properties of an image.

Located at the top of the Properties is a drop down option to switch between the Library and Derived view.

Tip

The derived view of the image doesn't mean the image has been set to use derived settings. If you want the image to have custom settings and values then select Derived Properties and then set the Property option Media Object Derived setting to True.

Auto fit

The Auto fit option automatically resizes the image while maintaining the aspect ratio to fit within the image area even if the Image Viewer is resized. The Auto size automatically adjust the zoom option.
Zoom – The Zoom option dynamically resizes the image displayed in the image area while maintaining the aspect ratio. Note that the image resizing is not saved over the original image located in the Fusion media store.
Image Dimensions – The dimensions, in pixels, of the selected image are displayed here.

Watermark Text – Enter the text you wish to use as the watermark.

Preset Position – There are nine preset positions where the text watermark can be placed on the image. If the present position is selected this will take precedence over a manually set position (see Position property below).

Manual Position – The position property allows you to set an X & Y pixel coordinate in relation to the watermark text and the image. The text watermark will be positioned from its top left at the defined XY coordinates. Setting this property is often easier via the Image viewer as it will dynamically preview the watermark as the properties are changed. The Position value will be overridden by the Preset Text Position if selected.

Color– Define the color of the text watermark.

Auto Size – The auto size option automatically sizes the font based on the size of the image it’s being applied to and the position that has been selected.

Drop Shadow – Applies a drop shadow to the text watermark. The drop shadow can add more definition to the text making it clearer on the image it’s applied to.

Font – define the font type and size you prefer for the text watermark.

Text Transparency – The transparency level of the text watermark determines how much of the underlying image shows through the text watermark. The transparency level can be between 1 and 100. The lower the value the more transparent the text will be. If the value is set too low the text may be very difficult to see in the main image. Setting a value of 100 means no transparency will be added to the text watermark.

Watermark Image – A drop down list shows all watermark images that have been added to the project via the Watermark Image Manager. See the Watermark Image Manager for more information on this topic.  The Watermark image dimensions are also displayed above the drop down list.

Present Position – This setting is only available if a Watermark image has been selected and the Watermark Image Inherit settings are set to False.

There are nine preset positions where the image watermark can be placed on the image as shown in the screen capture above. If a present position is selected this will take precedence over a manually set position (see Position property below).

Longest side – You can set the size of the watermark based on the longest side, measured in pixels. This effectively is like defining the size of a square box that the watermark image must fit within while maintaining its aspect ratio. A watermark image will not be resized beyond its actual size if the longest size exceeds this value. Also if the longest side value exceeds the exported image size the watermark will be resized to fit within the image boundary.

Size to parent – You can define a percentage value for the watermark to the parent image using the slider bar. The Size to Parent value must be between 1 and 100.

Transparency Level – The transparency level of the watermark image determines how much of the underlying image shows through the watermark. The transparency level can be between 1 and 100. The lower the value the more transparent the watermark image will be. If the value is set too low, the watermark image may be very difficult to see in the main image. Setting a value of 100 means no transparency will be added to the watermark image.

Properties

The Properties display on the left hand side of the Image Viewer interface reflects all the settings and values that can be applied to the image. If a property value associated with watermarking is changed then the change will be reflected in the separate watermark options and vice versa.

Save

To save any changes made to the image properties click the save button. If changes have been made to the properties and you close the Image viewer you will be reminded to save (if desired) before the form is closed.

Move between images

The Image Viewer allows you to move forwards and backwards between the images contained within the selected image category. You can access the next and previous buttons on the left and right edges of the image preview. The next and previous buttons are only available when the image category contains more than one image. The buttons will appear when the mouse moves over the left and right edges of the image preview area.

The media panel is a standard interface for dealing with media in Fact Sheet Fusion and can be found via several different interfaces, including the Media Manager. This help topic provides information on how to attach media to Topics, Entities and Glossary Terms, rather than managing media, as described in the Media Manager.

Within the media panel there are a number of options available for viewing media.

The media renderer offers six different themes to display the media. The choice of media renderer is completely up to the individual user. No one theme offers any additional functionality, they only effect the look of the media list. To change the renderer just select the preferred one from the drop down list. The new theme will then automatically be applied. Your preferred choice will automatically be saved once the form is closed. This choice will be selected across all instances of the media panel in other interfaces.

There are several media views that can be applied to the media list. They are:

Thumbnail View

The gallery view will render the selected image in the middle of the image list, while all the relevant media items are rendered as thumbnails horizontally below. You can move between the media items by clicking on the thumbnail image with your mouse or simply use the left and right arrow keys.

Details Pane

The thumbnail view shows the thumbnail of each media item in a grid. Media items can be selected by the mouse or navigated by using the arrow keys.

Thumbnail size

The details pane lists each media item as a file, detailing the file name, media dimensions and file size. Each column can be sorted (ascending or descending) by clicking the respective column heading.

The media thumbnails can be displayed at three different sizes. Use the thumbnail size slide bar to adjust the thumbnail size. Your preferred size will be automatically remembered when the dialog is next opened.

To add media, select the ‘Add’  button from the Media panel toolbar, or right click in an empty area of the media panel and select ‘Add’ from the pop-up context menu.

You can select one or more images. To select media items you can use the Ctrl key to select the individual items, while the Shift key allows items to be selected in blocks.

Once you have selected your preferred media click the add button located at the bottom of the Media Manager dialog as shown below.

The media manager dialog will close and the selected images will then be displayed within the media panel.

Delete buttonRemoving Media

Select the media you wish to remove (detach) from the current item (Entity, Topic, Glossary Term etc). Then click the remove button (Delete button) on the media panel toolbar. Alternatively you can select the Remove Media option from the pop-up context menu by right clicking on one of the selected media item to be removed, or simply press the delete key.

Media is not actually deleted when removing it via the media panel. Media can only be completely deleted via the Media Manager.

Sorting Media

The sort order of the media within the media panel is important as it is the order the media items are arranged in the exported fact sheet. You can adjust the sort order of media items using drag and drop. Select the media item you wish to change the order of and drag it to the desired position. The ordering of images starts from top left to right.

Media Captions

If the media item is derived (see below for further information), or the media properties are showing the library view (inherited), then the Media Caption is available to edit. The Media Caption panel has the mini HTML editor toolbar.

Viewing Media

To open a media item, double click on it within the media panel. Image will be opened within the Fact Sheet Fusion Image Viewer, where watermarking properties can be adjusted and viewed. While other media such as video, sound and PDF’s are opened in your operating systems default associated applications.

Media Properties – Inherited vs Derived

It is important to understand how media is handled in Fact Sheet Fusion. When media is added to a project via the Media Manager , default properties such as watermarks, copyright, photographer and caption etc can be added against the media. This information and the properties associated with the media are automatically available when attached to a Topic, Entity or Glossary Term. This concept is referred to as inheritance. This saves you from having to enter the same information over and over again each time the image is reused. However there are circumstances where the properties and information associated with a media item need to be customized. If these changes are not global in nature; and you don’t want these changes reflected in all the other instances where the media is attached, you can set the attached media item to be derived.

When you select a media item you will see its properties listed within the Properties Panel. At the top of the Media Properties Panel there is a drop down option list that allows you to switch between the library properties or the derived properties of the media as shown in the screen shot below.

If you are viewing the Derived Properties you may still not be able to edit other properties or the media caption until the media object has been set to be derived (true). You can see this option in the screen shot below, which is currently set to false:

Once this property has been set to True you can edit a copy of the Library associated properties.

Tip

You can switch between the inherited library view and the derived view of properties at anytime by using the drop down list at the top of the Properties Panel.

Note

If you switch to the Library Properties view of the media then you are editing the global properties of that media. Any changes will be reflected across all attached instances of this media where it is set to be inherited.

The Image Watermark Manager allows you to define all the images you wish to use as watermarks. Once you have selected an image as a watermark you can set preferred default settings for the watermark image if it is used within your fact sheet images. This can save having to define watermark image settings on an image by image basis. These default settings can then be overridden if desired.

Accessing the watermark manager can be done via the main interface by the Edit…Watermarks (Ctrl+W), or wherever you see the Watermark Manager icon (Watermark Manager button) on a toolbar.

Adding and Removing an Image

For this, you can use the Add and Remove image buttons on the toolbar. When removing an image, select it within the watermark image list then select delete. If the watermark image has been used within the fact sheets then it will automatically be removed from the image.

The image list displays all of the images that have been selected as watermark images. Selecting an image in the list will cause the watermark image settings to be loaded

Tag

The Tag field is a way to label your watermark image. By default, the image file name is used as the tag, but can be changed to whatever you desire.

When selecting an image as a watermark you can select an image that supports a transparent alpha channel. For example, PNGs and GIFs. You can also select other types of images as watermarks, for example a Bitmap. If your image doesn’t support an alpha channel, you will need to define the color you wish to be come transparent when it’s applied as a watermark. Click the select button and choose the color.

If your watermark image doesn’t support an alpha channel then you will need to define the color you wish to use. During the application of the watermark this color will be erased.  You can use browse for a color or enter the Red, Green, Blue color values. Alternatively you can enter a HTML color value:

Reset

Use the Reset button to clear the color selection. This defaults back to the use of an Alpha channel.

Transparency Level

The sets how transparent the watermark image is. The transparency level can be set from 1 – 99%. The higher the value the more transparent the watermark image will be.

Fixed size (or Longest side) option

The Fixed size (or Longest side) option allows you to define the equivalent of a virtual square box in which the watermark is resized when applied to the destination image. If a fixed size is defined, it will take precedence over other sizing options.

You can define the size of the watermark image as a percentage of the destination image.

Tip

A watermark image will not be resized beyond its original dimensions regardless of the sizing option selected. It will also not be set greater than the size of the destination image.

Preset Positions

This allows you to quickly set the watermark image in relation to the destination image. The preset position works in conjunction with the size option when calculating where to set the watermark image.

XY positioning

You can define an X & Y coordinate to determine where the top left of the watermark image is positioned in the destination image.

Save

To keep your watermark images settings click on the Save button. If you haven’t selected to save prior to closing the Watermark Manager you will be reminded to Save.

Glossary Manager

The Glossary Manager is where you can manage all the glossary terms associated with your project. You can access the glossary manager via the main interface menu Edit…Glossary Manager (Ctrl+G). Alternatively you can access the Glossary manager
(Glossary button) from a toolbar.

Preview buttonPreview

The Glossary preview option will export the glossary sets and allow you to preview the exported glossary page (e.g. glossary.htm; glossary.xml or glossary.pdf) in your preferred web browser or PDF reader. Before the glossary can be exported, a minimum set of export preferences need to be defined. If these export preferences have not yet been set, the export dialog will automatically open to allow you to set your preferences. For example, you must select an export template and destination. You may specifically set your glossary export preferences relating to cross linking in the export dialog under the Glossary tab. For more information on this please see the Export dialog help.

The export progress will be shown for Glossary Sets, Terms, Cross-linking and media processing. Once the glossary export has completed a set of simple export statistics will be shown and the preview button will become enabled.

Export Settings – Will open the Export Settings dialog allowing you to make any export adjustments.

Regenerate – This will cause the glossary to be exported again. This is useful if you have made changes to the export settings since the last preview.

Preview – This will open the exported glossary in either your preferred web browser; Or, if exported as a PDF, your preferred PDF reader.

Glossary Sets

A glossary set is a container for glossary terms. To enter glossary terms requires at least one glossary set. Multiple glossary sets are useful if you wish to group related terms within the exported glossary page. For example, if you were creating a set of fact sheets that covered both plants and animals you may want to create a specific set of terms for each of these groups as they may have terms that are the same but with different definitions. Or as another example you may just wish to group novice and expert terminology separately. Normally each Glossary Sets has it own alphabetical index within the glossary as shown in the example below. However this is entirely determined by the underlying export template.

There are a number of ways to add a Glossary Set:

  1. To add a Glossary Set either select Sets…Add from the menu;
    When adding a Glossary Set enter its name and click the add button.

  2. Right click in the Glossary Sets area and select Insert (Ctrl+I) from the context pop-up menu.

  3. Select Sets…Import from the menu (or context pop-up menu).
    If importing a list of Glossary Sets enter (or paste) all the desired Glossary Set names on to separate lines. Then click the import button.

Note

Duplicate set names are not allowed within the same project.

Editing

Once a Glossary Set has been added you can edit its name at anytime. To rename a Glossary Set select it, then from the Set menu or context pop-up menu (Ctrl+E) select the Edit option.

You can sort Glossary Sets alphabetically (Ascending or Descending) or manually sort them via drag and drop. The alphabetical sort options are available via the Set menu or the context pop-up menu. To sort manually select the desired Glossary Set then hold down the left mouse button and drag the Glossary Set to the preferred position in the Glossary Set list, then let go of the mouse button to drop it into position.

Highlight the Glossary set you wish to delete then either select the delete option from the Set menu, context pop-up menu, or simply press the delete key on your keyboard. You will receive a deletion confirmation warning before the delete occurs. You should make special note that all Glossary Terms within the Glossary Set will also be deleted. There is no undo to this action. You may want to move Glossary Terms from the Glossary Set prior to deleting. For more information on moving Glossary Terms see the Glossary Terms section below.

Glossary Terms

Glossary Terms are made up of a term and its definition. In order to add Glossary Terms you must define one or more Glossary Sets. You can add Glossary Terms in several different ways.
Select the desired Glossary Set you wish to add the term to. Then you can add the Term by either:

  1. Selecting Term…Add from the menu.

  2. Right click within the Term area and select Insert (Ctrl+I) from the context pop-up menu.

The definition is the explanatory text of the Term. Definition text is HTML based with the standard HTML editor options.

Review

If a term is marked for Review, this can be used to determine if it should be included in the export process.

Exclude

This marks a Term that should be excluded in the export process. Note: It is possible to override records marked as Excluded in the Export dialog, if desired.

Exclude from Crosslinking

If checked, this option will prevent the export process from cross-linking other terms and entities within the definition text.

Aliases

Aliases are alternative names to a given term. This allows the entry of additional related term names without duplicating the definition. It also allows the possibility of cross-linking where this alternative name is used within other terms or fact sheet topics. To create an alias term, create a new term, then simply select the root term from the ‘Alias Of’ drop down list. This alias term will then inherit the root terms properties and disable the term options such as Review and Exclude. To change an alias term back to a regular term, select the ‘Not an Alias’ from the ‘Alias Of’ drop down list.

Media

One or more media items can be linked to a Term.  Media Properties are accessible via the Glossary media panel along with the Media Caption. Please see Media and Media Manger help topics for further details on dealing with media.

Tip

If the Media Properties and/or Media Caption are read-only, then they are currently being inherited from the Media Manager. If you need to customize the caption text or media properties just for this instance, then set the media object derived properties to True.

Importing Terms and their definitions

(Available from version 2.05.208)

To import terms and their definitions you first must have a Glossary Set selected. (See above on Creating Glossary Sets).

From the File menu of the Glossary dialog select the ‘Import CSV’ option.

Next, select your CSV file containing the terms and definitions. The CSV file, if valid, will be imported and the Glossary Terms list updated.

It is important to note that any existing term definitions will be replaced by the CSV definition, where an existing term and CSV term matches.

The CSV format is a simple two column, comma (,) separated list of values.

Column one should contain the term. Column two should contain the term definition.

Column two, containing the term definition can either be plain text or contain HTML formatting.

Standard CSV formatting applies to the file.

E.g., The most basic CSV format:

My glossary term 1, Definition of the glossary term 1

My glossary term 3, Definition of the glossary term 3

If the term or definition text contain the column separator (i.e., a comma) then the term and/or definition text needs to wrapped in double quotes.

E.g.,

My glossary term, 3, Definition of the glossary term, 3

If the term or definition text contain double quotes these need to be escaped with an additional double quote.

E.g.,

If any errors are reported after the CSV import is completed these can be found in the Fact Sheet Fusion log, which is accessible via the Main dialog Help…About menu option.

Fact Sheet Fusion has several options for advanced users when dealing with media. Please read the help on any of these options prior to using as in most instances there is no undo action available.

Auto match and attach category media option

This option will automatically attach any media found in the media manager entity categories to the corresponding project entities. This is useful for example after performing a large media import and saves having to attach each entities media items ‘by hand’.

This option will search the currently opened Fusion database category sub folders found in the ‘Media’ folder location for any media files that have not yet been attached. Any unattached media found is then automatically added to the media manager under the corresponding category. No duplicate attachments will occur. This option does not attach the found images to the project entities. For this option use the ‘Auto match and attach category media’ option as described above.

Remove attached media, excluding derived, from the project

This option removes the entity media attachments for the project, excluding derived media attachments. This doesn’t delete media. It only removes the image links that have been associated with an entity in the current project. Derived images aren’t removed as this custom information associated with the image would be lost since it is stored on the basis of the link between the entity and the media item.

This option removes the entity media attachments for the project, including derived media attachments. This doesn’t delete media. It only removes the image links that have been associated with an entity in the current project. Derived images are also removed. This will result in the loss of any custom associated information or setting options for that entity image.

Report Missing Media from Store

All media stored within the media manager will be checked for missing files where moving, renaming or deleting may have taken place outside the scope of Fact Sheet Fusion, breaking the link between the Fact Sheet Fusion database and the file system. E.g. Via the operating system file manager.

Broken media within the Media Manager will not show a thumbnail, but rather a small media icon.

Note

It is highly recommended that you do not move, edit or delete media files found in the FSF database Media folder using the Windows file manager.

Delete Missing Media from Store

Manual changes to the Fusion databases Media folder content is strongly discouraged, however some advanced users like to manually delete unwanted media from the media store. When this happens it does so outside the scope of Fact Sheet Fusion. When the media manager is loaded these deleted files will be shown as broken media. This option can be used to clean out these now defunct records from the media manager.

References to all media items will be exported to a CSV file. The format (columns of data) mirror that of the CSV media import file format.

After selecting to export a file browser dialog will allow you to choose a folder and filename in which to save the CSV. Once completed you will see a completion dialog.

Opening the CSV in Excel

If you wish to open the CSV file in Excel, use the Data menu ‘From Text/CSV’ option, rather than trying to open it via the File…Open menu. As shown in the screen shot below.

This advanced option allows you to find and replace text within media category labels.

Find

Enter the text you wish to find within the Category labels.

Note: If the find criteria is found in multiple places within the Category label each will be replaced with the replace criteria. 

Replace

Enter the text you want to replace the find text with.

Note: The replace text can be left empty. When left empty the any text matching the find text within the label will be deleted.

Whole words only

If selected, the search for the find text within the Category label must have spacing. In other words the find text must not be part of another word.

For example, if we were to find on ‘and’ with the Whole words only option selected. The following would be the result in these examples.

Match case

If selected, for a match to be found within the Category label the same letter case must match the find text letter case. Using the above example, with this option selected searching on ‘and’:

Replace All

This will perform the find and replace on the media Category list using the options entered within the dialog.

After successfully updating any matching labels the Category list will be automatically refreshed.

While performing the find and replace operation each label change is checked to ensure it won’t cause a duplicate Category label. Where this is the case, a list of matching Category labels skipped will be listed for review.

Media Usage Reports

Media Manager

The media usage report shows all usage of selected media throughout all projects. This is particular useful if you want to permanently delete a media item. Or to check associated derived captions.

To generate a report select one or more media items in the media manager. Then right click to view the media pop-up context menu or press Ctrl+R. A report will then be generated on the selected media and displayed in the Usage Report dialog.

The Media Properties panel is located to the top right of the media list panel. It displays all of the properties that are associated with the currently selected media item. Different properties may be available depending on the media type. For example only images have watermarking properties available. Some media properties are informative (read) only, that is they can’t be modified. For example the media file size is informative only. Informative or read-only properties are identified by ghosted (light grey) labels, while editable properties are shown with regular text labels.

Properties are grouped within related categories. Each property group has a Group name (bold) which can be expanded and collapsed.

Editing a property depends on the property type. Some properties such as Custom Thumbnail size require two values to be entered for width and height, while others may be free form text. Each property has explanatory text associated with it that is displayed at the bottom of the property panel. This explanatory text is displayed when the property is selected.

Properties

General (Section)

Category – Shows the name of the Category the selected media is located in.

Filename – Shows the filename associated with the media item. You can, if needed, change the file associated with the media item by clicking on the file browse option on the right ([…]). This will replace the media file with the selected file while maintaining the media properties such as caption and copyright etc. This is useful ,for example, where your filename is extremely long and causes a problem when the exported path exceeds the maximum length. Or if you’ve modified the media store filename outside the scope of Fact Sheet Fusion, an action which is not recommended unless you are an advanced user.

Alternate Thumbnail – Allows you to select an image to represent the media item. Media types that don’t have a natural image association such sound files will automatically be assigned a default alternative thumbnail for that media group. These default thumbnails are located in the ‘Icon’ folder of the Fusion Database media store folder. Selecting this property will show a browse option that will let you select a custom thumbnail image file anywhere on your file system. The selected alternative image will automatically be copied across to your Fusion media store. Video media items will automatically have a frame captured and associated as the Alternate Thumbnail. These defaults can be changed by selecting a different image as describe above.

Note

You must have installed FFMPEG utility to enable video frame capture. You link the FFMPEG utility location to Fact Sheet Fusion via the Preferences dialog.

Media Type – Displays file type of the media item. E.g. Image, Video, PDF etc.

Caption Alternative Text – This text is automatically captured from the HTML Media caption associated with the media. It is a plain text version of this caption. This alternative text, without HTML formatting, can be useful when used in export templates that use JavaScript or require no HTML tags.

Custom Thumbnail Size – You can set a preferred thumbnail size for an individual media item. This can be used rather than the default export thumbnail size. The export dialog will allow you to override the Custom Thumbnail size. Normally consistent thumbnail sizes within fact sheets are desired, but this option allows you to fully customize each thumbnail, if needed.

Photographer – When selected this property will display a small text box to enter the media photographer’s details.

Copyright Statement – Similar to the Photographer property a small text box will be displayed allowing you to enter a copyright statement for the media item.

Comments – Author comments regarding the media item. These comments are private and not exported with the fact sheet. However, they are included as a part of the Media List file, if exported.

Review – You may mark a media item for review. By doing so, you can control via the export option whether this media is included in the fact sheet.

Image Watermark (Section)

Watermark Image – A drop down list of all watermark images that have been added to the project via the Watermark Image Manager. See the Watermark Image Manager for more information on this topic. 

Inherit Settings – The Watermark Image Manager can set global default settings for an individual watermark image. This can save applying the same watermark settings to every image the watermark is associated with. If you wish to override the global watermark settings for any selected watermark image then change the Inherit Settings to false. You can change back to the global settings for the selected watermark image anytime. Any custom watermark settings will be saved in case you wish to revert back to the individual custom settings.

Present Image Position – This setting is only available if a Watermark image has been selected and the Watermark Image Inherit settings are set to False.

There are nine preset positions where the image watermark can be placed on the image as shown in the screen capture above. If a present position is selected this will take precedence over a manually set position (see Position Property below). 

Position – The position property allows you to set an X & Y pixel coordinate in relation to the  watermark image and the main image. The image watermark image will be positioned from its top left at the defined XY coordinates of the main image. Setting this property is often easier via the Image viewer as it will dynamically preview the watermark as the properties are changed. See the Image Viewer help topic for more information on this. The Position value will be overridden by the Preset Image Position, if selected.

Transparency Level – The transparency level of the watermark image determines how much of the underlying image shows through the watermark. The transparency level can be between 1 and 100. The lower the value the more transparent the watermark image will be. If the value is set too low the watermark image may be very difficult to see in the main image. Setting a value of 100 means no transparency will be added to the watermark image. 

Longest side – You can set the size of the watermark based on the longest side in pixels. This effectively is like defining the size of a square box that the watermark image must fit within while maintaining its aspect ratio. A watermark image will not be resized beyond its actual size if the longest size exceeds the watermark dimensions. Also if the longest side value exceeds the exported image size the watermark will be resized to fit within the image boundary.

Size to parent – You can define a percentage value for the watermark to the parent image. The Size to parent value must be between 1 and 100.

Text Watermark (Section)

Custom Watermark Text – Enter the text you wish to use as the watermark.

Font – Define the font type and size you prefer for the text watermark.

Preset Text Position

Text Watermark Color
 – Define the color of the text watermark.

Drop Shadow
 – Applies a drop shadow to the text watermark. The drop shadow can add more definition to the text making it clearer on the image it’s applied to.

Text watermark Transparency
 – The transparency level of the text watermark determines how much of the underlying image shows through the text watermark. The transparency level can be between 1 and 100. The lower the value the more transparent the text will be. If the value is set too low the text may be very difficult to see in the main image. Setting a value of 100 means no transparency will be added to the text watermark.

Auto Size
 – The auto size option automatically sizes the font based on the size of the image it’s being applied to and the position that has been selected.

Exclusions (Section)

Exclude – If set to true the media item will be excluded from Exports.

Media Caption

Add text associated with the image. The caption text is HTML based and has the mini HTML editor associated with it.

Importing Media

The media import option is accessible via the Media Manager menu (Media…Import).

Import existing media via a CSV file. It is assumed the CSV file will contain a header row, which will be ignored when importing. The CSV column format is as follows:

[Entity Name], [Media Path], [Caption], [Photographer], [Copyright], [Comments], [Watermark Text], [Watermark Filename], [Review], [Exclude], [Sort Order], [Delete]

For example, the following rows are valid:

As you can see from the examples, each column must be present, even if empty. The columns must be separated via a comma when viewed in a text editor. When viewed in Excel each element is shown as a column, the comma separator isn’t shown within Excel and is not needed as a part of the column data. The columns can optionally be wrapped in double quotes to avoid escaping commas contained in field. The [Media Path] field must be the absolute path to the media item. The content fields can contain HTML tags. Any tags will be automatically cleaned; any tags outside of the body tags will be removed.

The Delete field, if set to ‘TRUE’, will delete the image within the entity category, if found. If creating a CSV for the purpose of removing media then only the Entity Name, Media Path and Delete fields need hold values. The Media Path value can contain only the media item’s filename.

For example:

Any errors occurring during the import process will be logged to the default FSF log file.

Moving Media

Moving Media

You can move media from one category to another using the move command (Ctrl+X). To do this, select the desired media items within a category and then select the move option in the Media menu or via the context pop-up menu. Browse to the destination category and use the paste command via the menu, pop-up context menu or keyboard command (Ctrl+V).  Moving media within Categories will not affect media items that have already been linked to project elements such as Entities, Topics and Glossary items.
